Homebrew Beer

Yes. Brewing beer at home for personal use is legal across Australia. Selling homebrew needs a licence, and some remote areas have dry zone restrictions, so check local rules if you live in one.

For most people, yes. Once you have your equipment, a 21 litre batch works out at roughly 85 cents to $1.45 a stubby depending on the recipe, and you can brew styles you cannot easily buy. Homebrew also keeps improving in the bottle for months.

A fermenter with airlock, tap and thermometer, a hydrometer, no-rinse sanitiser, a bottling valve, carbonation drops, a capper with crown seals, bottles and a beer recipe kit. A starter kit covers everything except the bottles.

After the one-off cost of a starter kit, each batch costs the price of a recipe kit, from $46.90 for about 55 stubbies, plus carbonation drops and caps (September 2026 prices).

Metro: usually a few business days. Regional: often a bit longer. You get tracking when it leaves the warehouse.
