Mangrove Jack's in Australia
Mangrove Jack's built its reputation on one idea: that a home brewer should not have to settle. The extract kits ferment out cleaner than the supermarket tins that came before them, the ciders taste like fruit rather than sugar, and the M-series yeasts are commercial strains packaged for a 23 litre batch. Australian Home Brewing has stocked the range since it landed here.
M-series yeast, by the numbers
The M-series is where most brewers meet the brand properly. Each strain has a number, and brewers swap those numbers like recipes. What matters is matching the strain to the beer you actually want, and if you are new to that our guide to brewing yeasts explains what the strain is actually doing.
- Ale strains. M44 US West Coast for hop-forward pale ales and IPAs. M36 Liberty Bell for balanced English-style ales. M15 Empire Ale for richer, maltier British beers. M42 New World Strong Ale when you are pushing the gravity up. M66 Hop Head Ale for beers built entirely around hop character.
- Lager strains. M84 Bohemian Lager for crisp Czech-style pilsners. M76 Bavarian Lager for the German end. M54 California Lager ferments clean at ale temperatures, which matters if you do not have a fridge to spare.
- Belgian and wheat strains. M41 Belgian Ale, M47 Belgian Abbey for the dark abbey beers, M31 Belgian Tripel, M21 Belgian Wit, M29 New French Saison, and M20 Bavarian Wheat for hefeweizen.
- Beyond beer. M02 Cider Yeast and M05 Mead Yeast for the fermentations that are not beer at all.
- M12 Kveik. The Norwegian farmhouse strain. Kveik ferments at 25 to 42 degrees and is built for Australian summer brewing, staying clean where other yeasts fail. If you have ever lost a summer batch to heat, this is the strain that solves it, and it is worth reading alongside our guide to keeping a fermenter cool in hot weather.
Craft Series ciders
The Craft Series ciders are 2.4kg pouches that ferment to a full 23 litre batch. Apple is the traditional starting point. From there the range runs through Pear, Mixed Berry, Strawberry and Pear, Raspberry and Lime, Raspberry and Mango, and Peach and Passionfruit, plus the Hopped Apple and Rose ciders for something less obvious. They ferment fast and drink well young, which makes cider a good first fermentation for anyone who has not brewed before. Our walkthrough on making your own cider covers the ferment start to finish.
International Series extract kits
Seven kits, each built to a recognisable style rather than a generic label: Czech Pilsener, Munich Lager, Dutch Lager, Bavarian Wheat, Irish Stout, Tyneside Brown Ale and Mexican Cerveza. Each is a 1.7kg tin. Pair one with the matching M-series strain and you are brewing a considered beer, not a compromise.
Every order ships Australia-wide from our Melbourne store. We have been supplying Australian home brewers since 1968, so if you are stuck between two strains, ask us. We have almost certainly brewed with both.

Which Mangrove Jack's yeast should I use for an IPA?
M44 US West Coast is the usual pick for hop-forward pale ales and IPAs. It ferments clean and leaves the hops in front rather than adding fruity character of its own. If you want the yeast to add to the hop impression instead, M66 Hop Head Ale is the alternative.
Can I brew Mangrove Jack's kits through an Australian summer?
Yes, but the strain matters more than the kit. M12 Kveik is a Norwegian farmhouse yeast. Kveik strains ferment at 25 to 42 degrees and are ideal for Australian summer brewing, producing clean beer where other yeasts fail. M54 California Lager is the other option, giving lager character at ale temperatures without needing a fridge.
Is it worth buying yeast separately instead of using the sachet under the kit lid?
Yes. The sachet taped under the lid is chosen for shelf life rather than flavour, and it is the same generic strain regardless of the style in the tin. Swapping it for a matched M-series strain is the cheapest single improvement you can make to a kit beer. Do not throw the sachet out though. It makes excellent pizza dough.
What is the difference between the Craft Series and the International Series?
The Craft Series is mostly ciders in 2.4kg pouches, including Apple, Pear, Mixed Berry and several fruit blends, plus a gluten free pale ale. The International Series is beer, seven 1.7kg extract kits built to recognisable styles such as Czech Pilsener, Irish Stout and Bavarian Wheat.
Which Mangrove Jack's product is best for a first-time brewer?
A Craft Series cider. Cider ferments quickly, needs no hop or malt knowledge, and is forgiving of small mistakes in temperature and timing. If you want beer first, choose an International Series kit in a style you already drink and buy the matching yeast separately.
How long will my order take to arrive?
Metro: usually a few business days. Regional: often a bit longer. You get tracking when it leaves the warehouse.
What is your returns policy?
