FAQ's
Q1: What’s the best home cider brewing kit for beginners?
Any of our AHB Starter Kits is the perfect choice for beginners. They all include the fundamentals you need to start brewing at home — from fermentation equipment to your first brew ingredients. Just follow the steps, and you're on your way to making great cider.
Q2: Is there support if I get stuck or need help brewing?
Yes — we’re here to help! AHB offers full support for beginner brewers, including step-by-step guides, how-to videos, and friendly advice via email, phone, or in-store. You’re never brewing alone.
Q3: Is it easy to upgrade my kit later on?
Absolutely. Home brewing gear is designed to be modular. You can start with a simple setup and gradually upgrade or add on, as your skills (and passion) grow.
Q4: How important is sanitation when brewing?
Sanitation is essential, but it doesn’t have to be stressful. Using a basic no-rinse sanitiser is enough. The goal is clean, not sterile. Just keep your gear properly washed and sanitised.
Q5: How long does it take to brew cider at home?
Most kits produce cider in 2–3 weeks. That includes about a week for fermentation and another 1–2 weeks for bottle conditioning, depending on the style.
Q6: Can I brew different cider styles with the same kit?
Yes! Once you have the base gear, you can brew lagers, ales, stouts, IPAs, and more. Just change up the ingredients and yeast to explore different styles.
Q7: How do I know if my cider is actually fermenting?
Even though your airlocks are not bubbling, almost certainly your brew is fermenting.
If there's a slight leak in the lid or the temperature is too cool, then there may not be enough pressure for the airlock to bubble. This isn't a problem; just keep checking with the hydrometer to determine when it's finished. If the surface of the brew is foamy, it's fermenting.
Q8: How do I know if fermentation has finished
When the activity in the airlock slows down, your brew's nearly finished. Take note of your hydrometer reading and wait 24-48 hours. Take another reading, and if it's the same, it's finished.
