Still Spirits Top Shelf Blood Orange Gin

Still Spirits Top Shelf Blood Orange Gin is a 50ml Still Spirits Top Shelf flavouring that turns 40% ABV neutral spirit or vodka into a finished spirit. One bottle makes 3 bottles of 750ml. Still Spirits describes it as "Sweet with the aromatic complexity of juniper and spicy citrus gin botanical notes."

What it tastes like

A sweet orange gin with the juniper and spice still there underneath. The blood orange gives it colour and a jammy citrus character, and it is at its best long, over ice, with soda or tonic and a slice of orange.

How to make it

Shake the bottle and add the 50ml to 70g of sugar, then top up to 2.25 litres with 40% ABV neutral spirit or vodka and stir until dissolved. Still Spirits suggests varying the sugar to taste, so start at 70g and adjust on the next batch.

The spirit can be bought vodka or your own neutral spirit. A clean base matters more than the flavouring: an essence cannot hide a rough spirit.

When to choose this one

Choose this over the Pink Grapefruit Gin when you want a sweeter, fruitier gin. The Grapefruit is the dry one. It is also the only gin in this set that takes sugar in the mix, so keep that in mind if you are after a dry bottle. The rest of the range is on the Top Shelf essences collection.
