Rich, indulgent, and impossible to put down
Share this product:
Rich, indulgent, and impossible to put down, the Double Choc Porter is a celebration of everything that makes dark ale so rewarding. Brewed with crystal malts, dark roasted grain, Fuggles hops, and a chocolate cream essence, this porter layers cocoa character from every angle — a big hit of chocolate up front, followed by espresso bitterness, biscuit warmth, and a lingering caramel finish. The English yeast strain brings the whole thing together with a smooth, rounded mouthfeel that makes it drink like a dessert beer, without being cloying. For those who love a sweet finish, adding up to 500g of lactose transforms this into a full milk chocolate experience.
Why brewers love this Chocolate Porter
The Double Choc Porter earns its name. The combination of dark roasted grain and chocolate cream essence delivers a genuinely double-chocolate hit that goes well beyond a typical dark ale. It’s rich and satisfying, but the Fuggles hops keep a firm backbone of bitterness underneath to stop it tipping into sweetness. Whether you brew it as-is or add lactose for extra creaminess, the result is a beer that feels genuinely special — and one that dark ale lovers will keep requesting.
What’s in the Box?
Everything you need to brew 20 litres of chocolate porter is included: a hopped dark malt kit, dark liquid malt, crystal malted grain, dark roasted malted grain, Fuggles hop pellets, chocolate cream essence, and an English ale yeast strain. Full step-by-step brew day instructions with all measurements are included in the box.
NOTE: For the sweet-toothed, we suggest adding up to 500g of lactose. This will smooth out the beer and make it taste just like milk chocolate!

Double Choc Porter — FAQ
What makes this a “double” choc porter?
The chocolate character comes from two sources: dark roasted malted grain, which contributes natural cocoa and coffee flavours through the malt itself, plus a chocolate cream essence added during brewing. Together, they create a layered, genuinely double-chocolate effect.
Can I add lactose to make it a milk chocolate porter?
Yes, and we recommend it if you enjoy a sweeter, creamier finish. Adding up to 500g of lactose during brewing smooths out the beer and adds a milk chocolate quality without making it overly sweet. Lactose doesn’t ferment, so it adds body without affecting the ABV.
How much beer does this kit make?
This kit produces approximately 20 litres — enough for around 26 x 750ml longnecks or 55 x 330ml stubbies.
Is this kit suitable for someone new to home brewing?
Yes. While the ingredient list is a little longer than a basic kit, the process is still very manageable. The grain additions are straightforward and the instructions walk you through every step clearly. The impressive results make it well worth the effort.
How long does this porter take to be ready?
Allow around 2 weeks in the fermenter, then 2–3 weeks conditioning in the bottle. Dark ales like porters often benefit from a little extra bottle time, which helps the flavours integrate and the beer smooth out further.
What food does this beer pair with?
The Double Choc Porter is excellent with rich, slow-cooked dishes — braised beef, lamb shanks, or a hearty stew. It also pairs beautifully with chocolate desserts and strong cheeses. Think of it as a red wine alternative for food pairings.
