The details
Still Spirits Original Whiskey is a 50ml Still Spirits Original flavouring that turns 40% ABV neutral spirit or vodka into a finished spirit. One bottle makes about 5 litres of finished spirit. Still Spirits describes it as "A traditional whiskey flavouring. A great value flavouring suitable for mixing with larger volumes of neutral spirit or vodka."
What it tastes like
The value whiskey essence: a plain blended whiskey character at a low dose, so one bottle flavours around 5 litres. It is not trying to be a single malt. It is the whiskey for a whiskey and dry, and it takes an oak spiral well if you want to add some barrel character over a few weeks.
How to make it
Add 7.5ml of flavouring for every 750ml of 40% ABV neutral spirit or vodka, or 11.25ml per 1.125 litre bottle, and shake well. One 50ml bottle flavours about 5 litres, which is why this range suits anyone running a Turbo 500 and bottling in volume.
The spirit can be bought vodka or your own neutral spirit. Most of our customers run theirs off an Air Still Pro or a Turbo 500 and carbon filter it first; our guide to making a clean neutral spirit covers the wash and the run. A clean base matters more than the flavouring: an essence cannot hide a rough spirit.
When to choose this one
Choose the Original when volume and price come first. Choose a Top Shelf whiskey when you want oak and fruit in the glass. The rest of the range is on the Top Shelf essences collection.
