What is the difference between the Air Still and the Air Still Pro?
The Pro adds selectable pot and reflux distillation modes, built-in temperature control, a refined condenser and a gin basket. Reflux mode gives clean neutral spirit for essences, and pot mode lets character carry through for whisky, rum and gin. Both units are air cooled and benchtop friendly with no water hookup. The classic Air Still does the neutral job well, but the Pro covers both without needing a second still.
Does an Air Still need a water connection?
No. The Air Still range is fan cooled rather than water cooled, so it runs from a standard power point with no plumbing, hose or drain. That is the main reason it suits apartments and kitchen benches where a Turbo 500 or alembic pot still would not be practical.
How often do Air Still carbon cartridges need replacing?
Carbon is consumed during filtration rather than cleaned and reused, so cartridges are a running cost rather than a one-off. They are sold in packs of 10, 50 and 80, and the larger packs work out cheaper per cartridge. How fast you go through them depends on how often you run and how much spirit you filter.
Can I make gin in an Air Still?
Yes. The Air Still Pro includes a gin basket, which makes vapour infusion the most accessible method for most home distillers in Australia. Botanicals sit in the vapour path so their aromatic compounds are carried into the distillate during the run, rather than being steeped into a finished spirit. For the classic Air Still, the infusement basket does the same job and is bought separately.
How much spirit does an Air Still produce in a run?
The boiler holds 4.5 litres of wash per run. The finished volume depends on the strength of the wash and how much of the run you collect, so it is not a fixed figure. Using a parrot head with an alcometer lets you read strength continuously as it comes off, which is more useful than estimating.
How long will my order take to arrive?
Metro: usually a few business days. Regional: often a bit longer. You get tracking when it leaves the warehouse.
What is your returns policy?
If something isn't right, tell us. We'll sort returns or replacements under Australian Consumer Law and our written policy. No drama.
