Coal-based granular activated carbon, fine 12x40 mesh. Suitable for filtering spirits and drinking water, and food-grade rated.

Coal-based carbon has a higher ash content than coconut-based, so give it a good water flush first to hydrate the carbon and clear the dust before you filter. It's a harder carbon, which is the upside for anyone filtering regularly. It stands up to regeneration and reuse far better than softer carbons, so the same batch keeps working across multiple runs and your cost per litre drops over time. 

Using this Activated Carbon with the Still Spirits Filter Pro

This carbon has been road tested by us at AHB using the still Spirits Filter Pro. The results were excellent, producing a finely polished neutral spirit.

 Fully flush this carbon with 8lt of water each time before filtering your diluted distilled spirit. Also note that once you commence filtering your spirit after the water flush, the first 300 - 400mls that comes from the filter will have a high water content which will further dilute your final spirit. Make sure you separate this is you wish to maintain the Alcohol %.
