The details
Ten replacement washers for the Still Spirits EZ Filter System. Two are needed to hold each carbon cartridge on the filter spindle, one above and one below, so a pack covers five cartridge changes.
What they do
The washers are the seal. They clamp the cartridge to the spindle so that every drop of diluted spirit has to pass through the compressed carbon rather than around the outside of it. A washer that has gone hard or split lets spirit bypass the carbon, and the batch comes out no cleaner than it went in.
When to replace them
Whenever one looks compressed, cracked or no longer sits flat, and as a habit whenever the filter has been in storage. They are cheap enough that fitting a fresh pair with a new cartridge is the simplest rule.
