FAQ's
Is this a clone of XXXX Summer Bright Lager?

This kit is inspired by XXXX Summer Bright and designed to capture the same clean, golden, easy-drinking character the original is known for. We’ve used Pride of Ringwood hops — a classic Australian variety — and a light malt extract base to get as close as a home brew kit can to that familiar crisp lager experience.

What does mid-strength mean, and is 3.9% ABV really lower?

In Australia, mid-strength is generally understood as anything meaningfully below full-strength (which sits around 4.5–5%). At 3.9% ABV, this kit produces a beer that’s noticeably lighter in alcohol without tasting watered down. The flavour is clean, complete, and genuinely satisfying — you’re not compromising on taste, just dialling back the ABV.

What are Pride of Ringwood hops, and why are they used here?

Pride of Ringwood is one of Australia’s most historically significant hop varieties, grown in Victoria and Tasmania. It has a distinctive resinous, lightly fruity bitterness that underpins the character of Australian commercial lagers — it’s the hop behind VB, XXXX, and many other iconic domestic beers.

How much beer does this kit make?

This kit produces 21 litres — enough to fill approximately 28 × 750ml longnecks or 55 × 330ml stubbies. Given how easy this beer is to drink on a warm day, having that many on hand is no bad thing.

What equipment do I need to brew this kit?

You’ll need a fermenter with a lid and airlock, a no-rinse sanitiser, a thermometer, a hydrometer, and bottles with crown seals for packaging. If you’re just getting started, our starter equipment kits include everything you need in a single pack.

How long until it’s ready to drink?

Plan for around 2–3 weeks from brew day to your first cold one. Fermentation typically takes 7–10 days at 18–20°C, followed by at least a week of bottle conditioning for carbonation to develop. This style is best served well-chilled — give the bottles a few hours in the fridge before opening.

Is this kit good for someone who has never brewed before?

It’s one of the most approachable kits in the range. The malt extract format keeps brew day simple and quick, the fermentation temperature range is broad enough to work in most home environments, and the result is a clean, crowd-pleasing beer that’s very hard to get wrong.
