The details
The Still Spirits Turbo 500 Stainless Steel Still Kit is a reflux column and condenser system for producing clean, high purity neutral spirit with the T500 25L boiler, which is sold separately.
Reflux distillation re-condenses the vapour repeatedly on its way up the column, separating out impurities as it goes. The result is neutral spirit at up to 93% ABV: the blank canvas for vodka, or for any Top Shelf essence. The system runs slow and steady on ordinary tap water cooling, no chiller required, and a run takes 4 to 5 hours.
Everything else is in the box: the 30L fermenter, testing gear, carbon filtration and the consumables for your first 25L wash.
Hamish's verdict: the biggest variable in your result is fermentation quality, not the still. Use the included Turbo Production Pack, keep your wash temperature stable, and let it clear fully before you distil. A cloudy wash in means a cloudy result out. Get that right and the T500 will handle the rest.

Quick answers
Questions about this product, shipping and orders. See the FAQ page for more topics.
Monday to Friday, 9-4pm AEST.We normally get back to you within a day—often sooner.
Will the T500 fit the boiler I already have?
It fits the Still Spirits Create+ boiler and the Grainfather G30, G40 and G70. Running something else? Ask us before you buy and we'll confirm it.
How much spirit does one run make?
A 6kg wash gives around 3.5 litres of raw spirit at 93 to 95% ABV, which becomes roughly 8 litres once diluted and carbon polished. An 8kg wash stretches that to about 4.5 litres raw, around 10 litres finished.
Is the cooling water hard to manage?
It takes a little practice to dial in. The water flow regulator holds the temperature for you; it's the add-on owners say they wish they'd bought on day one.
Can it make whisky, gin or rum, or just neutral spirit?
In reflux mode the T500 makes a clean neutral spirit, perfect for essences and gin botanicals. For pot-distilled whisky and rum character, the alembic pot top is the next step; it comes bundled in the Ultimate kit.
Does it come with a carbon filter?
Yes, the EZ Carbon filter system is included for post-distillation polishing. The Still Spirits Filter Pro is the larger-capacity upgrade if you want to step up later; it holds 500g of carbon and polishes 8L batches in one pass.
Is it legal to own a still in Australia?
Yes, stills are legal to buy and own. Distilling alcohol requires an excise manufacturer licence from the ATO; distilling water or essential oils needs no licence.
