The details
The Goat Steam Ale is a pale golden Australian craft ale that is ripe, tropical and refreshing. Cascade and Galaxy hops do the heavy lifting, with waves of fruit, tropical and floral aroma over a smooth, lightly sweet malt base. It makes 21 litres and is one of the most approachable hop-forward kits we offer, a genuine beginner beer that still produces something worth talking about.
What it is like to brew
This is a forgiving, hop-forward pale ale, which makes it a brilliant first hoppy brew. A malt base blending wheat and lager malt gives a smooth, lightly sweet backbone, generous Cascade and Galaxy carry the tropical and floral aroma, and a wide fermentation tolerance means you do not need to nail the temperature to get a great result.
Why this kit works
- Generous Cascade and Galaxy hops for fruit, tropical and floral aroma
- Smooth, lightly sweet wheat and lager malt base
- Wide fermentation temperature tolerance, very forgiving
- A genuine beginner kit that still drinks like craft beer
When it makes sense
A great first hop-forward beer, or an easy crowd-pleaser for any brewer. Works well when you want a refreshing tropical ale without fussing over temperature.

Questions about this product, shipping and orders. See the FAQ page for more topics.
Monday to Friday, 9-4pm AEST.We normally get back to you within a day—often sooner.
Is this a good first hop-forward beer?
Yes. It is one of the most forgiving hoppy kits we offer. The style is approachable, the fermentation temperature range is wide, and the pre-measured ingredients make brew day simple, so it is a great first tropical ale.
What beer is this inspired by?
It is a tribute to an Australian craft steam-style ale. It is an independent recipe, not affiliated with or endorsed by any brewery, built to deliver a tropical, hop-forward pale ale at home.
Do I need temperature control to brew this?
No. This is an ale and ferments well at room temperature (around 18 to 23 degrees C), so you do not need a temperature-controlled fridge.
How much beer does this kit make?
It makes 21 litres, which is roughly 28 longneck bottles (750ml) or about 55 stubbies (330ml).
What equipment do I need to brew this kit?
A fermenter with lid and airlock, a no-rinse sanitiser, a thermometer, a hydrometer, and bottles or a keg for packaging. Our starter equipment kits include everything you need.
