The details
Brew up a batch of our Bavarian Bierhalle, and you'll feel the call of a traditional Beer Hall in every bottle.
German cultivated noble hops, impart a lively blend of floral, spicy, and herbal notes which define the classic German Pils. This beer boasts a more assertive bitterness than what you would expect from a traditional Czech Pilsner, through the addition of both Halleratu and Tettnang hops.
Notably, its exceptional quality stems from the time-honoured balance achieved between malt-derived sweetness and the distinct hop driven flavours and bitterness.
A shining handcrafted example of one of Bavaria’s signature brews.
Two Different yeast option for 2 Different Brewing temperatures
Optimal fermentation temperature plays an important role for unlocking the utmost quality in this premium recipe.
This brew offers options: Mangrove Jacks M76 Bavarian Lager yeast, ideal for cooler brewing (8-14 degrees), promotes fuller malt character and enhanced hop flavours typical of German yeast.
If the lower brewing temperature isn't feasible, select Mangrove Jacks M54 California Lager yeast from the dropdown. It thrives at warmer temperatures (18-20 degrees), presenting a unique, clean fermenting lager strain, accentuating malt and hop additions.

What is the difference between a pilsner and a lager?
Pilsner is a specific style within the broader lager family. It originated in Bohemia (Czech Republic) and Germany and is characterised by Saaz hops, which give a clean, spicy, floral bitterness, and a pale, crystal-clear appearance. All pilsners are lagers, but not all lagers are pilsners. This kit produces a pilsner-style beer with the hop and malt profile specific to that tradition.
How do I get my pilsner to come out clear?
When using a high flocculation yeast strain like Mangrove Jack's M84 Bohemian Lager, the yeast will naturally clump together and drop out of suspension once fermentation is complete. Another option is to cold crash the fermenter at 2 to 4 degrees C for 48 to 72 hours after fermentation. Use a fining agent such as Clearfine isinglass at this stage. Avoid disturbing the fermenter when transferring to bottles. Refrigerate bottles for a minimum of 1 week before drinking. Pilsner is one of the styles where clarity most visibly reflects the quality of your process.
What is a malt extract recipe kit?
A malt extract kit provides the main fermentable sugars in a concentrated liquid or dry form, already converted from grain at a commercial brewery. You add water, yeast, hops, then ferment. It skips the grain mashing step, which cuts brew day down to about 30 to 45 minutes while still producing full-flavoured craft beer.
What is the difference between an extract kit and a fresh wort kit?
A fresh wort kit (FWK) delivers pre-brewed, unfermented wort in a bag, ready to pour straight into the fermenter and pitch yeast. No heating required. An extract kit requires you to dissolve the malt in hot water and add hops at various stages, which takes about 30 to 45 minutes. FWKs produce brewery-fresh flavour with almost zero work.
What equipment do I need to brew this kit?
You need a 30-litre fermenter with an airlock, a hydrometer, a thermometer, a long-handled spoon, a bottle capper, crown seals, and bottles. A no-rinse sanitiser is essential. AHB stocks no-rinse sanitiser specifically for home brewing. AHB starter kits include all of this in one bundle if you are starting from scratch.
How long from brew day to first drink?
Allow 4 to 6 weeks total. Fermentation takes 7 to 14 days depending on temperature. After bottling, the beer needs at least 2 to 3 weeks to condition and carbonate. Most kits are at their best around week 5 or 6.
Can a beginner brew this kit?
Yes. Extract recipe kits are the most approachable entry point to home brewing. The malt extract is already prepared, so there is no grain mashing or complex calculations involved. Follow the step-by-step instructions included and you will produce a solid result on your first brew.
