When to choose this over alternatives
Choose Willamette when you want soft, rounded aroma rather than a citrus or tropical hit. As a Fuggles descendant it shares that earthy, floral English character but is a touch fruitier and cleaner, which makes it a great bridge hop in American brown ales, porters and ambers. If you want a more traditional English earthiness, use Fuggles or Goldings instead. Pair a clean high-alpha hop like Magnum underneath for the bittering charge.
Practical notes
Willamette is an aroma hop, so it is happiest in the mid-to-late boil, flameout and whirlpool where its soft floral and spicy notes survive. The alpha is low, so use a generous weight for aroma. It dry hops nicely for a gentle, rounded character, around 20 to 35g. Store cold and sealed; low-alpha hops fade faster, so use it fresh for the best aroma.

Monday to Friday, 9-4pm AEST.We normally get back to you within a day—often sooner.
What beer styles is Willamette best for?
English and American brown ale, porter, stout, bitter and amber ale. It adds soft floral and spicy aroma without overpowering the malt.
Can I use Willamette for bittering?
You can, but the alpha is low (typically 4-6%), so you will need a generous weight. It is most valued as a late-boil and dry-hop aroma hop, with a clean high-alpha hop like Magnum for bittering.
What can I substitute for Willamette?
Fuggles is its English parent and closest match, with Goldings also close. All share the gentle, earthy-floral character.
How much Willamette should I dry hop with?
For a soft, rounded character, dry hop around 20g to 35g per 20L. Willamette stays gentle, so it suits malt-forward ales where you do not want the hops to dominate.
