What beer styles is Galaxy best for?
Hazy IPA, pale ale, XPA, Pacific ales and any tropical, fruit-forward beer. It is the go-to for juicy, passionfruit-driven Australian ales.
Can I use Galaxy for bittering, or just aroma?
Both, but it earns its keep as an aroma and flavour hop. The alpha acid is high (typically 13-15%), so a small early addition bitters efficiently. Save most of it for whirlpool and dry hopping.
What can I substitute for Galaxy?
Nothing matches it exactly. Eclipse covers a different part of the citrus-tropical range, bringing mandarin and orange, Citra is the closest for tropical punch, and Vic Secret (another HPA hop) shares some of the passionfruit and pineapple character.
How much Galaxy should I dry hop with?
For a hazy or juicy pale ale, start around 25g to 50g per 20L and adjust to taste. A short contact time of 2 to 3 days keeps the aroma clean.
