When to choose this over alternatives
Eclipse is the mandarin-and-orange specialist. It covers a different part of the citrus-tropical range to its HPA stablemate Galaxy, and together they build the juicy citrus-tropical wall you see in a lot of modern Australian hazy pales and IPAs. Where Citra leans grapefruit and lime, Eclipse pushes sweeter mandarin and orange with a resinous pine edge. Pair it with Galaxy or Vic Secret for a fully Australian hop bill.
Practical notes
Eclipse rewards late use. Keep it for the whirlpool and dry hop where the mandarin and orange really come through, and use only a small early charge for bittering since the alpha is high. For a hazy, 25 to 50g of dry hops is a good starting point. Being an HPA hop grown here, Eclipse is usually very fresh in Australia. Store cold and sealed, push the air out, and use within 12 months of opening.

What beer styles is Eclipse best for?
Australian Hazy Pacific ales, hazy IPA, XPA and pale ale. It brings a standout mandarin and orange character to juicy, fruit-forward beers.
Can I use Eclipse for bittering?
Both, but it shines as an aroma and flavour hop. The alpha is high (typically 14-18%), so a small early addition bitters efficiently. Save most of it for whirlpool and dry hopping.
What can I substitute for Eclipse?
Nothing gives the same mandarin note exactly. Galaxy is its natural partner from the same grower, and Vic Secret shares the Australian tropical-citrus character.
How much Eclipse should I dry hop with?
For a hazy or juicy pale ale, start around 25g to 50g per 20L and adjust to taste. A short contact time keeps the mandarin and orange clean and bright.
