What is a fermenter?
A fermenter is the sealed, food-grade container where your wort ferments into beer. A home brew fermenter has a lid, an airlock to let gas out without letting air in, a tap for bottling and usually a stick-on thermometer.
What size fermenter do I need?
A 30 litre fermenter is the standard choice. It gives a 21 litre batch room to ferment without foaming out through the airlock. Smaller 15 litre fermenters suit half batches, and 60 litre fermenters suit double batches.
Can you drink beer straight from the fermenter?
You can, but it will be flat. Beer from the fermenter has no carbonation until it is bottled with carbonation drops or kegged and gassed. Bottled beer needs at least three weeks to carbonate.
Plastic, glass or stainless steel: which fermenter?
Food-grade plastic is affordable, light and what most home brewers start with. Glass demijohns suit small batches of wine, mead or cider. Stainless steel and conical fermenters cost more but last and suit brewers who want more control.
How long will my order take to arrive?
Metro: usually a few business days. Regional: often a bit longer. You get tracking when it leaves the warehouse.
What is your returns policy?
If something isn't right, tell us. We'll sort returns or replacements under Australian Consumer Law and our written policy. No drama.
