FAQ's
What is Perle and why is it used here?
Perle is a traditional German Noble hop variety developed in the 1970s and widely used in Bavarian lager brewing. It produces a pleasantly spicy, slightly floral bitterness with subtle herbal notes — the kind of refined, restrained character that defines great German lager. It’s a natural fit for this style.
What is M76 Bavarian Lager Yeast?
Mangrove Jack’s M76 is a traditional German lager yeast strain that ferments cleanly at cool temperatures (8–14°C), producing authentic crisp lager character. It’s the yeast that makes this kit genuinely Bavarian — getting the fermentation temperature right is the key to getting the best out of it.
How much beer does this kit make?
21 litres — approximately 28 × 750ml longnecks or 55 × 330ml stubbies.
Do I need a special setup to ferment this?
You’ll need to ferment at 8–14°C for the best result. A dedicated fermentation fridge is ideal, but a cool garage or spare room in the cooler months can also work well. The lower the temperature within that range, the cleaner the finished beer will be.
How long does it take?
Allow 2–3 weeks for fermentation at lager temperatures, then at least 2 weeks of cold conditioning in the bottle. This is a beer that genuinely rewards patience.
