Kentucky Small Batch Bourbon Recipe (Makes 3 litres)

A rich, smooth and fruity bourbon with toasted oak and honey on the nose, a smooth, sweet and spicy taste and a warm, lingering finish. In the style of Maker's Mark American Whiskey.

A Bourbon Whiskey that benefits from longer aging soaked on American Bourbon Barrel oak. The result being a softer smoother bourbon rich in toasty oak, apple spice and vanilla flavours.

This Recipe Pack includes a Still Spirits Classic Crafter’s Cut Bourbon Whiskey, American Bourbon barrel oak staves ,glycerine plus instructions. 

To make this recipe you will need

• Glass Jars 
• 3Lt of 40% Spirit
• 2 to 8 weeks of patience whilst your Bourbon Whiskey is aging and mellowing

METHOD…

Mix both sachets of Crafters Cut Bourbon with 3 litres of filtered alcohol at 40%. Add 10ml of glycerine to smooth the bourbon and add a touch of sweetness.

Add 100g of bourbon barrel staves and soak in glass for 2 to 8 weeks. The longer the soak the deeper the colour and the more intense the oak flavours and aroma. Sample as it matures to discover the flavour intensity that suits.

Note: You can also vary the quantity and volume to suit your taste. Once matured, bottle your bourbon & remove the staves.

Note: to make a 1.5lt per batch use 1 sachet of essence and 50g of staves and 5 ml of glycerine and follow the same method

Charred American bourbon barrel oak staves bring an aromatic sweetness and complex array of other flavoursome compounds, including, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar and toasty notes with a nice mouthfeel. They also enhance the whiskey with a rich deep golden colour – the longer the soak the deeper the colour

The charring process caramelizes the wood sugars in the oak and when soaked on spirits provides rich colour, smooth texture, and sweet notes within 10 days. The extra surface area of the cut staves intensives the flavour and colour and reduces the soaking time.
