This Amber grain is classified as a crystal grain and is used for colouring and flavouring. The grain is roasted in such a manner that sugars become crystallized. Hence there is no need to mash these grains. A simple steep is all that is required. They can be added in with grains while mashing if required or can be used to enhance malt extract beers. Amber grain imparts a amber colour to beer as well as a slight burnt toffee and caramel flavour. EBC 30 - 60
